Chapter One,
Luna
“Are you guys ready?” Daye ask as we are walking the sidewalk up to our school.
“Yeah, but it will probably be boring!” Angelica complains. We are going to the Spring dance, but we’re probably just gonna play volleyball in the gym. Even though Angelica always complains.
“Maybe it won’t be boring, maybe something exciting will happen!” I say trying to stay positive, even though I am not so happy about going either.
“What would be so exciting about a stupid middle school dance?” She challenges.
“Maybe Johnny Depp will be there!” Bella says, knowing that Angelica is obsessed with him.
“No... he is in London now with his kids who are-.” Angelica tries to explain.
“That is creepy, just plain creepy.” Daye interrupts, just as we are going through the doors.
“Names?” A kid that has been in our grade since kindergarden asks us.
“Mark, we have known you forever! You know our names!” Angelica says in an annoying tone. He does this everytime, and it is the same argument, every time.
“Names?” He says slowly and sternly.
“Fine! Angelica, Bella, Daye and Luna!” Daye says about to explode, she has anger issues sometimes.
“Alright have fun!” He says happily and cheerfully. And girls can change their mood in an instant?
“Alright, so where to first? The gym or the cafeteria?” Daye asks, even though I already know her answer.
“Let’s got to the cafeteria!” Angelica says walking in without even waiting, Bella quickly follows.
“Ugh, fine.” Daye says trudging into the cafeteria. So I am not the loner, I follow them in. The school brought in speakers, lights and even some people like DJ’s.
“See isn’t this fun?!” Angelica shouts over the music. I have to admit, it is nice seeing that schools are all boring for a change. We stay in there for awhile, many people in there failing at dancing. But then they play a slow song, the couples go in and we are out of there. Towards the gym. So yes, we are all forever alone. And as I thought it is over run with guys play basketball.
“Come on!” Daye says excitedly. This is the only reason she comes to school dances, to play even more volleyball. As if playing on the rec league, summer camps, school, and select aren’t enough.
“I don’t wanna play! It hurts my arms!” Angelica complains.
“Deal with it!” Is Daye usual response. Next thing she does she chucks the ball at her. So we just play volleyball for a while, Angelica complains when she touches it, Bella having to go get the ball when she messes up, Daye serving and hitting a few basketball players, the usual.
But then the weirdest thing happens. The doors slam shut. I know that may not sound weird. But the gym doors are as big as hotel entrance doors, made of metal and wood. They don’t slam. The guys thought “It’s just a prank, I can open the doors!” But they couldn’t. So something weird is going on, or they are just weaklings. And I wouldn’t be surprised if they were.
“Let us out!” I hear a few muffled screams from the cafeteria call out.
“What’s going on?” A lot of people ask through the gym, including myself. Then the lights shut down, and the room is almost pitch black. Someone screamed, and let me tell you, it wasn’t a girl. Considering we are the only girls in here.
“Who turned out the lights?!” Someone calls from across the room. I see a figure striding over to the light switch, but it won’t turn on. Then people start freaking out a bit. Where are the teachers when you need them!?
“Wait!” I say, connecting the dots “It is probably the teachers messing with us!”
“Yeah, ha ha NOW LET ME OUT!” Angelica shouts. Then a cackle fills the gym.
“Oh you think it was your teachers? Sure, tell yourselves that. I am not a teacher, I am your worst nightmare!” More manic laughter follows after that.
“This is getting creepy...” Bella voice quivers.
“There is no escape, so enjoy your spring break and stay away during your spring break, otherwise you will get on my bad side.” More manic laughter fills the air with a cold chill. The lights go on, revealing that the guys are more afraid than us, and the doors swing open.
“What was that! That was really...” Daye begins.
“Weird?” I say.
“Freaky?” Bella says.
“Awesome,” Angelica says enthusiastically “Now I know what we are doing over spring break!”
“You don’t mean-.” Bella tries to say.
“Yes!” We are gonna be at school at night, and find the person that did that!” Angelica says, practically jumping up and down with joy.
“No, no, no, and no, we can’t just get into the school!” I say, seriously that is a terrible idea! People are already fleeing the dance!
“You guys are at my house for like the whole week, because of stupid vacations and trips and all of that, so it is perfect!” She says grinning.
“How would we even get in? And what if we get caught? And what if-.” Bella says creating a list of problems.
“Calm down, the window in the social studies room is always unlocked, the cameras will be down, so we are in the clear, it is settled we are going!” Daye announces. Oh man, this is gonna end badly.
Chapter Two
Daye
Later that night we headed over to Angelica’s, because well, Spring break has officially started.
“So I was thinking that tomorrow we should camp out in the school. It will be a Saturday so no teachers if they come in they won’t stay too late,” I tell them.
“So when should we go then?” Bella asks stupidly.
“9:00 p.m tomorrow,” Luna says before I could.
“We should get some sleep,” Bella says gesturing to the clock that said it was midnight.
“Night everyone!” I shouted.
I got tired replies back, “night.”
I got tired replies back, “night.”
Soon Angelica’s room was filled with the snores of my friends sleeping. I however had other stuff on my mind.
I grabbed the bag that I packed earlier and quietly changed out of my pajamas. I changed into skinny jeans, and my volleyball sweatshirt.
I crept down the stairs as quietly as I could, even though the stairs creaked with age.
Opening up the garage door, I started having second thoughts about not waking my friends. But shook it off quickly. Once I was outside, I locked the door with the key I stole from Angelica’s room and hid it under the front mat.
And I sprinted into the woods, because on the other side of that forest, was the school.
Estimating, it took me roughly 12 minutes non-stop to run to the woods. And that’s not including the time that I fell down the hill and tripped over a couple tree stumps.
But finally I stood in front of the school, when suddenly someone from behind pushed me.
“YOU TURD!” my attacker, who I recognized in an instant was Luna.
“What are you doing here?” I hissed through my teeth, rubbing my legs which have been searing with pain since the last stump.
“I had the same PLAN! And you left me out of yours!” She whispered loudly. She needs to learn how to whisper correctly.
“Whatever,” I said too exhausted to argue, “Lets go!”
So quietly we snuck into the school. And I got out my flashlight.
Then Luna asked something stupid, “Why don’t we just turn the lights on?”
I looked at her like she was an alien, “Because if someone just happens to pass the school, they’ll know we’re here!” I cried out.
So we walked into the gym, where we were when the person yelled at everyone. And all the balls used for play were in a mess on the floor.
“Wanna play?” I ask even though it is waaaaaaaay off of what we were going to accomplish.
“Really? Is this the time,” Luna looked at me like I was whacked.
“Well whoever it was didn’t like it before!” I said knowledgeably.
So we played for a while, but nothing happened. Guess there is no phantom after all...
Chapter Three
Bella
“Angelica? Angelica?! Wake up! I think Luna and Daye ditched us!” I say, really hoping they didn’t head off to the school. Why, oh why did my parents have to go to see my cousins stupid play? Its in a whole different state for crying out freaking loud!
“Wuh?” Angelica replies tiredly, “Hey, where did Daye and Luna go?”
“You're kidding right?! Nevermind, I’m hoping they’re in the bathroom or something but-” I say until I’m rudely cut off.
“I bet they’re at the school!”*Gasp* “I just got a GREAT idea!! We should make a plan just the two of us. I think that all four of us are making some big plan against this guy. But we can make something like a back up plan. Like, that we can use if-” Angelica says till she practically turns blue.
“Yea, I get it. You know.. the Social studies window isn’t the only window that’s always open.” I say. Angelica widens her eyes at this.
“Really?! Where?”
“Okay well it isn’t necessarily considered a window, or open. But, it is a door. And I happen to obtain the key.” I say triumphantly.
“Um, how exactly?”
I roll my eyes. She knows that I’m one of those stupid ‘janitor helpers’. So, I have a bunch of other things. including the keys to the janitors closet. Which I always thought that'd be fun to ditch a class with a friend. But, that would just be weird. Would I really rather be stuck in a room with a mop in my face, just to get out of some algebra questions?
Then I said, “You know why. But anyway, lets just stay here ‘kay? We can plan, but no leaving tonight. I mean, its like what time is it? Five?”
“Ugh, you just had to go and suck all the fun out of it didn’t you?” Angelica says sarcastically, angry that we won’t be leaving the house.
“yes, yes I did.” I say matter of factly.
Then there’s just this awkward silence. But it isn’t completely quiet. There was quiet footsteps. but then, as Angelica broke the silence with her non stop rambling of Johnny Depp, the footsteps started to get less sneaky, probably realizing we were awake.
“Hey guys,” Daye says as she clumsily stumbled through the door with Luna, and a box.
“Nice entrance” I say staring at the box. Luna must’ve noticed my stare and opened her mouth to explain.
“We brought doughnuts!” She says opening the box, that was filled with awesomeness.
“Really? Was thirteen doughnuts necessary?” I say, even though we all know its a good thing. The more the merrier!
“You know why dodo, it’s my favorite number.” Luna says happily.
“Yea, and it’s a bakers dozen.” Daye says, trying to point out that Luna’s favorite number wasn’t the only reason they got thirteen.
“Yea, nobody cares. Can you hand me a doughnut with chocolate on it in any way possible? I don’t feel like getting up.” Angelica says tiredly. I respond by handing her a doughnut and picking my own. It takes me a little longer than it should though, I finally choose on just a simple, round, glazed one.
“So, how’d you guys sleep?” Daye says, trying to break the silence.
“How was your rendezvous around the school?” I say, trying to get them to admit they went to school without us or a plan! A PLAN!
“Fine, nothing happened but tonight we will stay longer.” Daye says boredly. Seriously, she’s not gonna deny it? Well that takes the fun out of things.
Chapter Four
Luna
The rest of the day seems to fly by. We talked about ‘the plan’ even though we still don’t have any, went outside and played volleyball (yes, Daye had to bring one), and mostly spent time on tumblr, Angelicas favorite, and attempted to make some videos for our Youtube channel.
“Alright, my mom is gonna be gone all night, she has a business banquet in Milwaukee and is staying there for a day or two, so we are in the clear!” Angelica says, grabbing a flashlight.
“Your mom is just letting us be alone, we are in 7th grade!” Bella says confusedly.
“Yes! I am responsible!” She says objecting. I hold in a laugh at that, Angelica, no offence, is the least responsible of us all.
“Alright, so should we go now?” Daye asks, grabbing a backpack.
“Yes, let’s go!” I say heading out the door, and walking into her backyard.
“So what's the plan?” Angelica calls from further away.
“I thought you had one!” I call back to her.
“So we are going in with no plan?” Daye interrupts
“What?! No plan?! We gotta have a plan!! There is no way I’m leaving this place-” Bella says
“Deal with it Bella,” Daye shouts out, pushing her.
“But- Ugh fine, but if we die I’m bringing myself and I back to life just so that I can kill you all over again!” Bella tries to make her comeback failing epically.
“Have fun with that,” Angelica says as the school comes into view.
“Alright, the window should be unlocked, so we are good to go!” Daye says as she starts jogging into the school.
“But what if-.” Bella tries to say, but is quickly cut off by Angelica.
“We have keys!” She says taking a ring of them out of her pocket.
“No I have keys! You don’t!” Bella says, trying to snatch them back, but ends up missing.
“Come on guys! I say as Daye and I are already waiting at the window.
“Fine!” Bella says grumpily as she trudges her way over here.
“Okay, now it should just pop up...” Daye say, grabbing the corner of the window. Then it flips up, almost hitting herself in the face. Klutz.
“Alright, let’s go,” Angelica says practically running through the window, followed by Daye, Bella then me.
“How should we begin?” Daye says walking over to the door.
“Well let’s just go to the gym, and wait there for a while for something to happen.” I suggest.
So we just walk over and sit in the gym. For some reason all of the balls disappeared, weird. Probably a janitor though. We wait like 4 minutes, nothing.
“This is boring, I am getting out of here.” Angelica states, getting up.
“What if I turn off the flashlight! Then something could happen!” Daye says flicking off the flashlight, and it becomes almost pitch black.
“Great now it is darker!” Bella complains. But then, I hear really loud footsteps in the hallway. Guess the phantom needs to be quieter. I’m guessing they heard them too cause we all kind of head to the door, slowly.
“Be very quiet...” Daye whispers as we creep out the door, the footsteps are getting closer and closer. Why did she put away her flashlight?
“This is stupid, let’s just go faster!” Angelica whispers
“No! Now I actually want to figure out what’s going on!”Bella harshly whispers.
So we keep trying to be quiet, and the footsteps stop. So either they are trying to be quiet or it is right in front of us. For some stupid reason Daye starts running and Angelica, Bella and I try to catch up to her as we all collide from impact. God that hurt, what did we run into a wall?
“That hurt,” A dudes voice said. Which would have freaked the crap outta me, but I am a little occupied by my throbbing headache.
“Tell me about it,” Daye says, grabbing her flashlight out of her bag and flicking it on, blinding everyone. When I can finally see it turns out it is a few guys that were in the gym when the weird phantom happened.
This is kinda awkward.**Alright guys, if you've read it this far, thanks! I'm not gonna put anymore up because it might be published! And this above is the very ruff version.. Thanks for my 50 pageviews!**
